The Diploma in the Laws of Procedure is an undergraduate course in one branch of the law, the law of procedure. This undergraduate course provides a comprehensive knowledge of and training in the core legal subjects related to procedural law.

This course requires you to acquire a detailed knowledge of all the laws of procedure. All study-units are compulsory and are assessed at the end of the semester.

The programme of studies extends over a period of two-years of part-time studies. Lectures are held in the evening, normally spread over two days a week.

Applicants admitted as "Adult Learners" (mature applicants) under paragraph (c) of Regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the Course, together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitaei.

Applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' are required to sit for an English Proficiency Test to be held on 6 September 2023. Successful applicants will then be required to sit for an interview, which will be held during the same month. Once announced, dates cannot be changed. Such applicants shall be exempted from sitting the proficiency test if they are in possession of a pass at SEC level English at Grade 5 or better or equivalent. The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' (those who will be sitting for the proficiency test and/or interview) is 31 August 2023 at 2pm.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Diploma in the Laws of Procedure under the auspices of the Faculty of Laws.

By successfully completing the Diploma in The Laws of Procedure, you should:

learn and apply all the laws of procedure - civil procedure, administrative procedure, constitutional procedure, criminal procedure, ecclesiastical procedure, European Union procedure and industrial procedure.
know how to apply the above laws in practice.
understand the rationale behind the procedures set out in the above laws.
be able to decide which is the appropriate procedure to be applied in a given circumstance and distinguish one procedure from another.
learn and develop their intellectual skills through applying what they would have learnt in class during exams or when submitting assignments, presentations and other methods of assessment.
develop their intellect through a system of formal teaching which makes students apply research methods to the subjects they are studying.

empower Court employees and other students following this course working in a legal milieu to upgrade their theoretical learning of the Laws of Procedure which they apply in their everyday work.
utilise the knowledge gained from this course to carry out better their duties at the Courts of Justice or at their place of employment as they would be in a better position to know the reason why certain procedures are carried out, how are they carried out, who can carry them out, etc.
